Frequently Asked Questions

Cooking on a griddle is all about searing, sizzling or sautéing your food. With the solid flat plate, griddling lends itself to lots of different cuisines that you wouldn’t normally associate with barbecuing.

Unlike any other Weber barbecue, the Weber Slate has been designed to cook without a lid. The hinged Top Cover is for storage purposes only and should only be lowered once the gas turned off and the barbecue has completely cooled.

No. The Weber Slate cooktop is made from rust-resistant carbon steel that is pre-seasoned and ready to cook on, straight out of the box.

It depends on your cooking frequency and local conditions. With time, if your griddle is used infrequently, you may notice your griddle surface seems dry and that your food is sticking to the surface. This is a good indication that your griddle needs to be re-seasoned. Instructions are provided in your Owner’s Manual.

Weber Slate™ Reviews

Weber® Slate™ Tabletop Griddle (17") LPG is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from 17" Slate Griddle Pretty happy with this griddle. But downside: not sure why you can't cook with the lid down, the heating isn't as even as suggested but not too bad, not easy to handle given it doesn't have handles anywhere so this was a bad design, and the carry bag is also designed for the 22" griddle so is stupidly massive, not recommended.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good BBQ when it works first time BBQ is good and does what I need it to but have a couple of issues that have taken a few emails to Weber NZ and still not resolved. I can't register my BBQ and have been trying since October. This issue has now seemingly been sent to Weber's IT Team to sort again. Almost every time I turn the BBQ on, I have to reset the regulator. In the manual there are 2 methods of turning the BBQ off - first the cylinder and then the control knob and also first the control knob and then the cylinder. I have since been told the physical paper manual is incorrect and have been sent a electronic one. Control knob first and then cylinder. I still have to reset the regulator most times I use it. And, I have 2 cylinders, 1 half full, the other full so does not sound like the cylinder. Not much help from Weber support. I think it may just be a faulty regulator but they seem not to. I have had a few Weber's before and never had an issue with any of them. Would consider giving 5 stars if the regulator issue was resolved and support was more helpful.
