What is your favourite Kettle that you’ve collected over time?
It would have to be my 1974 22” Yellow kettle, also known as The Gourmet. It has a few battle scars but still cooks like the day it was put together, it even changes colour when hot. It’s also my birth year kettle and always gets fired up on my birthday.
What is your favourite coloured Kettle?
That’s a tough one. I have so many favourites….. I love the 1960’s Avocado aka The Caribbean!
"I love the fact it was a family owned business. Even when Ross McDonald brought the Weber Kettle to Australia it has stayed as a family business for decades and I believe everyone who owns a kettle feels like they are part of that family."

How long have you been collecting Weber barbecues?
I've only been collecting for three years, I like to rescue kettles and gift them to friends to share the experience, especially women to get them in to cooking with fire.
What does Weber mean to you?
We all think it's just a bbq or a way of cooking, but it's so much more! The camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts goes beyond what cookers you have, but moreso of the friendships and how we support each other. It brings others in to the fold to find that common ground, that in a time of covid and world unrest etc, we just want to get back to basics, to cook and provide good food! Weber unites us.

What is your favourite Kettle that you’ve collected over time?
The standout grill in my collection would have to be the 1963 Grey "Plainsman". This grill was manufactured in the Weber Woodale Illinois Plant and was the last year of the metal lid handles before Weber introduced a timber lid handle in 1964. The "Plainsman" was offered by weber for one year only and featured exclusively in the 1963 Catalogue. It is one of only 5 Plainsman's that have been discovered and in collector hands worldwide and the only one on Australian Soil.
It's not quite as rare as the Plainsman, but our Limited Edition 70th Anniversary Kettle in Hollywood Gray just as beautiful!
What is a feature of the older model Kettles that you wish could be brought back to newer models?
Timber/Wood was a fundamental design element used by weber throughout the early years of their vintage catalogue. Its integration into Kettle Accessories, Handles, Tables, Carts and the like dates back as early 50/60s. The natural properties of the timber complimented the grills and yard décor nicely. I would love to see weber return to using timber in some aspects of their grills and accessories.

What's the oldest Weber Kettle in your collection?
My oldest Webers in my collection would be my 1956/57 22inch black Weber Kettle and my 1956/57 black and yellow Chromoveil Weber Kettle. I especially love these 2 as they were made back when George still worked at Weber Bros Metal Works and before the factory was moved to Wooddale Illinois in 1958.
What's your favourite meal to cook on your barbecue?
My favourite meal on a kettle would have to be a low and slow smoked brisket. I love spending 10+ hrs smelling the sweet smoke while it's cooking and turning a lesser cut into something fantastic!!!
