Hotplate cooking on a Weber Q
How to set up your Weber Q for hotplate cooking
The type of hotplate you use determines how you set up your barbecue. A Breakfast Plate sits on top of the existing cooking grill, a Half Hotplate replaces one half of the cooking grill, and a Full Hotplate replaces both halves of the cooking grill.
Note: The Full Hotplate accessory is only suitable for 3rd Generation Weber Q models.

HOTPLATE COOKING
- Preheat the barbecue with the hotplate in position and the lid closed for the recommended time.
- Oil the food, or add oil or butter to the hotplate.
- Place your food directly onto the hotplate, close the lid (see Hot Tips), and cook for half of the recommended cooking time. Flip your food at the halfway mark, then close the lid and cook for the remaining time.
HOT TIPS
- When using the full hotplate accessory, great results can be achieved with the lid either down or open. However, you’ll find that food cooks faster with the lid down.
- The lid thermometer will not provide an accurate reading when using the hotplate accessory.
- To clean your hotplate after cooking, start by using a metal spatula to scrape off any food residue. If stubborn grease remains, turn off the barbecue and let it cool for about 5 minutes. Then, carefully squirt a small amount of water onto the hotplate, scrape again with the spatula, and wipe it dry with a paper towel. For a deeper clean, remove the hotplate from the barbecue, wash it with hot, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to dry completely before storing it or replacing it on the barbecue.
