Can I Use Metal Utensils On My Cast Iron Grates?
A common question we get asked is “Can I use metal utensils on my porcelain-enameled cast iron grates?” The answer is yes! Your porcelain-enameled cast iron grates create a tough, non-stick surface that will withstand mild abrasion. When using metal utensils you do want to be careful not to forcefully dig into or scrape the grates.
Although the grates are considered non-stick, it's important that you preheat your grill for 10-15 minutes on high heat and brush a light coat of oil on your food before placing it on the hot grates. Follow these two simple steps and food should not stick to the grates and clean-up will be a breeze! It is important to keep your grates clean, which is why we recommend using a Weber Stainless Steel brush. So remember, you can use metal utensils just don’t be too rough on your Weber, it has feelings too!
